Happy New Year!

Congrats Alexis!

Stratford Festival has announced the 2015 season, and it includes a former member of the JAS and AYS:  Amabile Alumna Alexis Gordon! She’ll make her Stratford debut as Julie Jordan in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel.

Alexis is a graduate of Medway High School  and the Acting program at The University of Windsor. She is currently based in Toronto. Her credits include: Iris, in the world premiere of The Gravitational Pull of Bernice Trimble (Factory Theatre & Obsidian Theatre Company) and Canada Sings, Godspell (with Primus conductor Mark Payne at Victoria Petrolia Playhouse) among many others.

Alexis was the inaugural female winner of the “Syd and Shirley Banks Prize for Emerging Artists” in the 2012/2013 season with Acting Up Stage Theatre Company. She got a glowing review from “Post City Toronto” for her performance in “The Gravitational Pull of Bernice Trimble”, saying, “Actor Alexis Gordon does a wonderful job bringing this character to life.”

Stratford Festival’s media release describes the iconic “Carousel” story:

“Against the backdrop of a sun-drenched New England summer, a pair of star-crossed lovers, carnival barker Billy Bigelow and millworker Julie Jordan, discover the power of love to transcend turmoil and even time itself in a show graced by what is arguably Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most luscious score, filled with soaring melodies and unforgettable lyrics.

“You’ll Never Walk Alone,” “If I Loved You” and “June is Bustin’ Out All Over” are merely the shiniest gems in a classical Broadway musical that has resonated with audiences for 70 years.”

Do you recognize this amazing Amabile voice (or Mark Payne on Piano)?  From “Ragtime”, by Ahrens & Flaherty, here’s Alexis singing “Your Daddy’s Son”.

Congrats Alexis from your Amabile admirers!
