Report from the Chair – Delivered to the Board of Directors, at the Amabile Annual General meeting, Riverbend Golf Community, January 24, 2018 by Sue Hale, Chair, Amabile Choirs Board of Directors
Director’s Report:
Dear Board Members and Friends of the Amabile Choirs of London, Canada,
During the past season, Amabile has had many wonderful accomplishments both artistically and administratively.
Amabile’s focus this year was to continue to grow this great organization and to celebrate many of our accomplishments. Our great country’s centennial year. As such, our regular season saw numerous artistic collaborations and events with our Proudly Canadian titles as, “True North”, Strong, Free, and Proudly We Praise.
Our 27th annual Festival welcomed the energetic Karen Burke and her ensemble. “A Joyful Celebration” it was, as our choirs moved and sang to new artistic heights. This was an outstanding event and I thank all that were involved in making it such a success.
“Sing Your Song”, the musical collaboration of Matthew Emery and Amabile was released. Matthew Emery, one of our accomplished Alumni, and last season’s Composer in residence, as written over a dozen songs for Amabile and many of them are featured on this disk.
Our continued success has been noticed by other organizations including our third invitation to perform with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. In April 2017, Prima: Amabile Women’s Choir and Primus, AYS and AYWE: Amabile Men’s Choir performed music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, at Roy Thompson Hall, as guest of the TSO.
As with our creative vision, our Animato Early Years program held another successful year special thanks to Becky Fleet. Under her guidance, I am hopeful that this program will continue with as much success, training new singers.
This was a season to honour those who have invested many years of service in Amabile. Jackie Norman, artistic director for JAS and Da Capo celebrated her 25th anniversary in the organization and Wendy Landon Artistic Director JAS and Da Capo celebrating 15 years. Congratulations!
Special thanks go out to Wade Baillie, our outgoing president. Wade brought an energy to the organization and worked diligently to ensure consistency throughout. Wade continues to support the organization in every way that he can and is still an active member of the Men’s Choir.
Thanks also go out to John Bray who dedicated many years to the organization both in choir activity and as an active member of the Board of Directors.
Amabile welcomed Mike Hale as our new Bookkeeper in January 2017 and Peter Clements joined our Board of Directors in June 2017.
Administratively, Amabile with the guidance of MLD Solutions Inc. has commenced converting to a CRM Platform, which will assist us in managing resources, marketing information, and registration. While this is a work in progress, we have made significant headway in converting various components onto the system.
Amabile created an internal SharePoint site with which to house all documents, meeting Minutes, Calendars, organizational structure and internal communications for ease of access for all within the organization.
Behind the scenes, Amabile is doing well and as such launched its inaugural Golf Tournament that raised over $8,000 for the organization.
As your Board President, I cannot thank each of you enough. The amount of volunteer hours that each of you invest in this organization is the reason we are so successful. Without you, we would not be where we are today.
Thank you to all of you who donate your time, energy and support Amabile.
Yours truly
Sue Hale, President
